My name is Helen Mansfield
Life is a collection of stories and I believe the final chapter deserves to be told with absolute warmth, dignity and care.
As an independent funeral celebrant, my role is to guide you through one of life's most tender transitions to help you create a farewell that truly reflects the person you love.
I understand what it means to grieve. I know how heavy the quiet spaces can feel and I know how much comfort there is in a gentle, guiding hand.
What does an independent celebrant do?
A celebrant works with a family to prepare the words, music and any other content a family might require for a civil funeral ceremony, which can be held in a crematorium chapel, a community or hospitality venue, an outdoor setting, a garden.....
They work alongside a funeral director, who manages the legalities and logistics and cares for your loved one after their passing.
The celebrant runs the ceremony, delivering the service with the absolute dignity that it deserves.
I didn't know there were different types of funeral ceremony...
Many people do not realise that they have a choice in the way they bid farewell to their loved one, beyond a traditional church or crematorium ceremony. But it is your choice, to choose the venue you feel befits your family and the type of ceremony that your loved one deserves.
Traditional Funeral Ceremony
A traditional farewell at a crematorium or chapel, structured around your family's wishes: beautiful words, crafted with care from our conversations and interspersed with your choices of music and visual tributes.
Natural Burial or Interment Ceremony
Nature-centred eco-friendly ceremony held at an eco burial site, that honour a loved one's connection to the earth and allowing you the choice of a woodland burial or interment of ashes after the ceremony if you wish.
Celebration of Life
Uplifting, narrative-focused ceremony, allowing the time and space for a longer farewell. This can be held at any venue of your choice: crematorium chapel, outdoor burial ground, community centre, hospitality venue etc.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony can be combined, if required, with a burial or committal at a wide choice of settings or with a direct cremation.
What is Direct Cremation?
You have probably heard of Direct Cremation through advertisements for companies such as Pure Cremation. A direct cremation is when a person is cremated without the attendance of family or friends and the ashes are then collected for interment or scattering.
Many families choose this as a significantly less expensive option. The ceremony honouring life is held at a different setting either simultaneously or at a different time.
What happens now?
When you are ready, I am here for an informal chat to guide you through the next steps.
